Questions About the Shortage

  • Why are Nicorette Lozenge out of stock?

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare is voluntarily recalling from warehouses and distributors all nicotine lozenges manufactured at our site in Aiken, SC after we detected manufacturing issues affecting some batches.  In some cases, the lozenges were larger or smaller than GSK’s manufacturing standards.  These lozenges are sold globally.  We determined that certain batches of the lozenges – while they do not pose a safety risk – do not meet GSK’s manufacturing standards.  This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the Food & Drug Administration.

In the US, this recall affects Nicorette 2 mg and 4 mg Lozenges.

  • Why are you recalling these products?

We are voluntarily conducting a recall from warehouses and distributors because an internal investigation detected manufacturing issues with some of the products.  In some cases, the lozenges were larger or smaller than GSK’s manufacturing standards.  Consumers can still use any lozenges they currently possess – the affected batches do not pose a safety risk.

  • Is it safe to continue using nicotine lozenges?

Our medical assessment determined that our lozenges do not pose a safety risk.  Consumers can still use any lozenges they currently possess.  For more information, consumers can call our Consumer Relations Line at 888-569-1743 during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday.

  • What should I do if I have some of the affected product?

Our medical assessment determined that our lozenges do not pose a safety risk.  Consumers can still use any lozenges they currently possess.  For more information, consumers can call our Consumer Relations Line at 888-569-1743 during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday.

  • If there is no safety issue, why are you recalling the product?

  • What do you mean by manufacturing issues?

In some cases, the lozenges were larger or smaller than GSK’s manufacturing standards.  However, our medical assessment determined that our lozenges do not pose a safety risk.

  • Can I return unused product for a refund or replacement?

Our medical assessment determined that our lozenges do not pose a safety risk.  Consumers can still use any lozenges they currently possess.  For more information, consumers can call our Consumer Relations Line at 888-569-1743 during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday.
